v2.0 - Endless Mode!


I decided to devote another weekend to this and the new version is now ready, with bug fixes and the missing "Endless mode" feature. Most notable changes are listed below!

Endless mode will give you an unlimited set of levels which have been randomly generated. Your best scores (and whether a particular seeded run has been attempted) are saved for every possible seed, and any particular seed can be chosen if you want to beat a score or play the same set of levels that someone else was given.

This may be the only update this game will get, save for reported bug fixes. There might be one "final final" version when I've tidied up all the source code, but this is basically the finished game.

  • Fix crash on "final" level tries to load
  • Fix thief footsteps playing when walking against a wall
  • Fix pebbles being picked up immediately if jumping / walking and jumping at particular times
  • Fix code causing memory leaks (books inside a stage were never disposed of)
  • Fix window icon not working (was showing as Monogame logo)
  • Reduce sound file sizes and remove unused duplicate .ogg files (zip went from 20MB to 7MB)
  • Added secret cheat codes (ask if you're interested, one of them is pretty funny)
  • Add endless mode: Level select + scoreboards with persistent storage + randomly generated levels
  • Make owls more aggressive (more likely to chase than before, more frequently)
  • Owls won't attack when player is on the ground floor, or anywhere below the lowest shelf
  • Owls won't attack when player is reading a book / in the shrine
  • Internal fix: the game uses a 16 colour palette, but some graphics didn't honour it. This has been tidied up so palette changes are consistent across the entire game
  • Internal fix: Code style improvements and general performance improvements
